WDM is Wavelength Division Multiplexer, which is divided into DWDM and CWDM.
WDM can be subdivided into CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) and DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing). The channel spacing of CWDM is 20 nm, and the channel spacing of DWDM is from 0.2 nm to 1.2 nm, so CWDM is called sparse wavelength division multiplexing technology with respect to DWDM.
A dense wavelength division multiplexing DWDM, closely spaced bands (or 0.4nm 0.8nm), the number of multi-channel, high technical requirements, mainly used on the trunk, the local and metropolitan area networks are also widely used. Single channel transmission rate is high, large system capacity.

It is CWDM Coarse WDM, channel spacing width (20 nm), a small number of channels (the channel width of 1200 ~ 1700nm division channel 16). Low technical requirements, used mainly in metropolitan access networks. Single channel transmission rate is relatively low, and system capacity is not large.
Advantage:
The CWDM optical module adopts CWDM technology, which can combine optical signals of different wavelengths through an external wavelength division multiplexer, because it transmits through one optical fiber, thereby saving fiber resources. At the same time, the receiving end needs to decompose the complex optical signal using a wave decomposition multiplexer. In addition, CWDM optical modules can be plugged into a switch or router SFP port.
CCWDM is a mini-wavelength division multiplexer, which is a mini version of CWDM. The size of CWDM package is basically 100x80x10mm, 120×80×18mm.
In contrast, CCWDM has a much smaller package size. Adjacent channels of CCWDM use parallel beams to cascade in free space instead of fiber. Without the fiber used for cascading, the CCWDM package is only 60 x 29 x 10 mm, which is 10 times smaller than the standard CWDM package.
