What are the important causes of the failure of the SFP optical module?
The failure of the SFP optical module is divided into failure of the transmitting end of the module and failure of the receiving end. Through the phenomenon analysis, the most common problems are mainly concentrated in the following aspects:
(1) The optical port of the SFP optical module is contaminated and damaged
The optical interface of the module is contaminated and damaged. As a result, the loss of the optical link is increased so that the optical fiber link cannot communicate. The main reasons for this phenomenon are the following 4 points:
The optical port of the 1SFP optical module is exposed to the environment for a long period of time, causing the SFP optical port to enter the dust and contaminate it.
2 The fiber jumper end face that is connected to the SFP optical module has been contaminated, and the SFP optical port is subject to secondary pollution.
3 The end of the optical connector with pigtail is improperly used in the process of use, the end face is scratched, etc.
4 Use inferior fiber optic jumpers; pigtails, etc.
(2) SFP optical module is damaged by ESD
The full name of ESD is: ElectroStatic Discharge is "electrostatic discharge", ESD is inevitable, a very fast process. The rise time can be less than 1 ns (one billionth of a second) or even several hundred ps (1ps = one hundred thousandths of a second). ESD can produce strong electromagnetic pulses of tens of Kv/m or more. Static electricity can cause dust absorption, change the impedance between lines, and affect the function and life of the SFP optical module.
ESD's transient electric field or heat generated by the current can also cause damage to the components. In spite of the short-term operation, the lifespan has been affected; even the insulation or conductors of the components have been damaged, and the components cannot work (completely destroyed). Therefore, in addition to improving the ESD immunity of electronic components, it is more important to use the correct operation during the process.
The main factors that cause ESD damage are:
1 dry environment, easy to produce ESD;
2 SFP optical modules operate in an irregular manner. For example, the SFP optical module is often electrified. The static sensitive pins of the SFP optical module are not touched by static electricity protection [t2]. There is no anti-static package during transportation and storage of the module.
3 The active fiber optic equipment is not grounded or has poor grounding.
